  • Clearly and accessibly written, Capitalism and Modernity is a major work of original scholarship which will be a key text in social theory. Doesn't really assume you know very much about either of theses thinkers, but probably still interesting if you d Emphasizing the commonalities between these two theorists, Sayer does a good job of taking them on their own terms and focusing on modernity, but also carrying in elements of a postmodern perspective.

The book is a theoretical review of the works of Marx and Weber. The author states this in his introductory remarks. What follows is a lucid and insightful account of capitalism and modernity in Marxian and Weberian terms.
